Hand over records your accountant will love
Year end is where good bookkeeping pays off. If your books have been kept properly all year, closing the year should be quick. I carry out the final checks, make the adjustments needed to show a true picture, and put together a clear pack for your accountant: a trial balance, reconciliations, and schedules supporting the key figures.
For sole traders and landlords
Since the 2024–25 tax year, sole traders are taxed on profits for the tax year (6 April to 5 April) rather than their accounting year end. If your year end is different, apportioning profits can get fiddly. I’ll make sure the figures your accountant – or HMRC – receives are correct.
For limited companies
Company year ends bring extra items: the director’s loan account, dividends, accruals, stock and depreciation. I get all of these right in the books so your accountant can prepare the statutory accounts and corporation tax return efficiently.
Working with your accountant
I’m happy to liaise directly with your accountant, whether they’re in Wimborne, Poole, Bournemouth or further afield. You stay in control, and we make sure nothing falls between the gaps.
Year-end preparation: frequently asked questions
Will this reduce my accountant’s fee?
Often, yes. Many accountants charge more when records arrive incomplete or unreconciled. Sending them a clean, reviewed pack usually means less work for them and fewer questions for you.
I don’t have an accountant. Can you prepare my year-end accounts?
I focus on bookkeeping and year-end preparation. For limited company accounts and corporation tax, I work alongside trusted local accountants and can introduce you to one.
When are limited company accounts due?
A private limited company must normally file accounts with Companies House within nine months of its year end. Corporation tax is usually payable nine months and one day after the year end.
