A personal payroll bureau, right here in Verwood
Your staff want to be paid correctly and on time; HMRC wants to be told about it on or before every pay day. Knights Book Keeping works like a small, personal payroll bureau: I run your payroll to your schedule, send you a summary to approve, email payslips to your team and submit everything to HMRC under Real Time Information (RTI).
You’ll get a clear report showing exactly what to pay each employee, what to pay HMRC and when, and what to pay into the pension scheme. If something changes – a new starter on Monday, overtime, sick leave – just call, email or WhatsApp me.
How each pay run works
- You send me the hours or changes – by email, WhatsApp or a shared timesheet.
- I process the payroll and send you a summary to check.
- You approve it, and payslips go out to your staff.
- I submit the FPS to HMRC on or before pay day and upload pension contributions.
- Each month you get a note of the PAYE and National Insurance due to HMRC by the 22nd (if paying electronically).
Payroll for builders and construction firms
Many of my payroll clients are builders and trades. Construction payroll has its own quirks: weekly pay, variable hours, travel and subsistence, apprentices, and a mix of employees and CIS subcontractors. I run your payroll and CIS together, so every worker is treated correctly and HMRC receives one consistent picture. If you’re a limited company that suffers CIS deductions, I’ll also claim those deductions back against your PAYE through the Employer Payment Summary.
Getting the details right
Payroll errors are expensive and upsetting for staff. I keep on top of:
- Holiday pay – including the rolled-up holiday pay rules for irregular-hours and part-year workers
- National Minimum and Living Wage checks every April when rates change
- Employer National Insurance and the Employment Allowance, which can reduce your bill
- Statutory payments – sick pay, maternity, paternity and shared parental pay, and reclaiming what you’re entitled to
- Student loan and postgraduate loan deductions and tax code notices from HMRC
Workplace pensions sorted
Auto-enrolment has lots of moving parts: assessing each worker, sending the right letters, calculating contributions, uploading to your pension provider and completing your declaration of compliance. Getting it wrong can lead to fines from The Pensions Regulator. I handle it alongside your payroll so nothing gets missed.
Who I run payroll for
I run payroll for the kind of businesses that keep East Dorset going – building firms and trades in Verwood and Ferndown, cafés and shops in Wimborne and Ringwood, care providers and small offices in Poole and Bournemouth, and family-run companies where the only employee is the director. Payroll & auto-enrolment: frequently asked questions
How much does payroll cost?
£25 a month for up to 4 employees, including all your RTI filings with HMRC, then £2 a month for each extra employee. There’s no VAT to add.
How small a payroll will you run?
From a single director’s salary upwards. Many of my payroll clients have between one and fifteen staff, including builders with a mix of employees and CIS subcontractors.
What does auto-enrolment involve?
Employers must enrol eligible workers – generally aged 22 to State Pension age and earning over £10,000 a year – into a workplace pension, pay contributions, send a declaration of compliance to The Pensions Regulator and re-enrol staff every three years. I manage each step for you.
Can I switch to you part-way through the tax year?
Yes. I’ll take over your year-to-date figures from your old provider or software, so your staff’s pay, tax and pension continue seamlessly.
Do you run payroll in Xero?
Yes. As a Xero Certified Advisor I can run payroll in Xero, which posts wages straight into your accounts. I can also use standalone payroll software if that suits you better.
Can you file my P11D forms too?
Yes. If you provide benefits such as company vans or health insurance, I can prepare P11D forms, which are due by 6 July after the end of the tax year.
